Hi, all!
My name is Olivia, and I’m an instrumental music education major here at UWM. I have played the French horn for the past nine years. I am currently a junior planning on doing my student teaching in the spring semester of 2021. As of right now, I am hoping to work as an elementary music teacher in an urban school. Music has always been a major part of my life. My grandmother encouraged me to pursue music since I was a little girl, and her support has helped me realize my true passion lies in educating others about music and its role in our lives.
I am attaching a link to a TEDTalk that discusses the benefits playing musical instruments has on the brain. I look forward to working alongside you all on our different blogs!
Until next time,
Olivia
Hello Olivia,
I am so happy that your grandmother has always pushed you and supported you to pursue music. In any Asian culture, I think we are mostly pushed to pursue money making careers and not things that we enjoy. I’m excited to learn more about your Disciplinary Inquiry this semester!

Hi Olivia, I thought about playing the french horn at one point in my life but chose the oboe. That sounds like a wonderful job working as a musical teacher in elementary school. I really enjoyed you opening up about your grandmother. Thats wonderful how much she was involved.

Hi Olivia,
Happy to visit your blog! I always felt like the French horn was one of those instruments that was super difficult, which makes me respect your playing immensely! And the Ted Talk video is awesome – thanks for including that in your post!
Looking forward to learning more about you!
